generalIn April, representatives from our Foundation, Gabriel Cusato, Paul Griffiths, and Sydney May visited Queer Britain, one of the charities selected in our Winter 2024 funding round. During the visit, they met with Andrew Given, Museum Director, and Max Wolffe, Operations and Finance Manager, to learn more about the museum’s impactful work.
Queer Britain is the UK’s first and only dedicated LGBTQ+ museum. Since its formation in 2018, the organisation held a series of ‘pop-up’ exhibitions before securing a permanent gallery space in the renovated Granary Buildings in King’s Cross, at the heart of Camden.
Our funding will support the installation of a Wi-Fi-enabled collections management system in the museum’s main galleries. This system will continuously monitor and record environmental conditions such as light, humidity, and temperature, helping to safeguard Queer Britain’s growing archive for future generations.
By providing real-time data, the system will enable the museum team to make informed adjustments to the collections environment such as regulating temperature for sensitive objects ensuring their long-term preservation. Additionally, it will contribute to ongoing staff training in conservation practices.
Thank you to the team at Queer Britain for welcoming us. We’re excited to follow the progress of this project and the positive impact it will have. Learn more about Queer Britain and the services they offer, here.
