As the grants had been paid for the first round of funding we were very keen to get out to meet the charities who had received a grant!

Two representatives from the Foundation, Toby Thorne and Katrina Chia, met with Hilary and Jan from  and also one of the families who had received a specially trained dog called Luna from the charity. The family said how much their daughter Zana had thrived from having Luna around, and what a wonderful friend Luna was to Zana. It was clear that they were a great partnership!

The specific project that the Foundation had funded was training a dog called Clover for an autistic man in the Berkshire area. The aforementioned Clover is still in training. Toby and Katrina also managed to meet another dog in training called Milo – a Cavapoo. It was enlightening to spend time learning and discussing how an autistic assistance dog can change someone’s life. There were some amazing stories about people being able to go to university, school, or being able to be part of their local community by simply going to the shops, perhaps something one of us would take for granted. There is also a huge demand - there are currently 120 applicants on the waiting list.

Thanks again to Dogs for Autism UK who organised the whole visit.
